eMESA
eMESA (Electronic Maltese-English Speech Assessment) is a research-driven digital application being developed to transform how childhood speech is assessed and diagnosed. It digitises a scientifically validated and standardised Maltese-English speech assessment tool into an engaging, interactive app that helps Speech-Language Pathologists analyse children’s speech far more quickly and accurately than traditional manual methods — reducing analysis time from hours to minutes and supporting bilingual language contexts like Maltese and English.
The project is funded through the Research, Innovation and Development Trust at the University of Malta with support from partners such as GO and Foster Clark. While the core research and clinical expertise comes from the university’s academics, the app is now being developed in collaboration with us at Flying Squirrel Games, bringing gaming-inspired design and interactive technology to the eMESA tool.
