Olly’s Adventures
Olly’s Adventures: The City of Two Languages is a board game with a companion app where players guide penguins as they race to the city centre. Along the way, players complete fun language tasks using both the physical game and a digital device. The first penguin to reach the city wins.
The game was created through a collaboration between Flying Squirrel Games and the University of Malta, combining research expertise with engaging, family-friendly game design.
Designed with the support of speech and language pathologists, designers, and game developers, Olly’s Adventures helps children improve their language skills in Maltese and English. It is suitable for typically developing children as well as those with language or developmental language disorders.
Players can explore multiple activities across different difficulty levels, focusing on skills such as vocabulary, sentence building, conceptual understanding, and social language—all while learning through play.
- Conceptual language (featuring tasks like Categories, Odd One Out, and Matching Pairs).
- Word Classes (covering Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs, Pronouns, Conjunctions, Determiners, and Prepositions).
- Sentence Formation.
- Utilising social language effectively within a group setting.
